French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe welcomed the increased investment in France, especially from Britain.

The government figures show what Philippe called a "significant increase" of 33% of British investment in 2018 compared to the previous year.

Edouard Philippe said the results show that the measures taken by his government to attract British companies have had the desired effect.

The French authorities have made special efforts to encourage the financial sector to set up in France in the uncertainty surrounding Brexit.

The statistics published today also show that the actual amounts invested in France by foreign companies have also increased.

Nearly 25% of foreign investment is concentrated in industry, according to the French Prime Minister, who said that 10% were earmarked for research and development.
