Celebrations took place outside the Parc des Princes in Paris after hostess France made a good start in her Women's World Cup campaign with a 4-0 win over South Korea.

"There were four goals, it does not happen often, super," said a young fan.

"The atmosphere was great, we sang, we danced, we screamed, it was amazing," said another.

"It was magic, 45,000 spectators in the stadium, four goals is a dream, South Korea is not so fantastic, but we are proud of our team."

The organizers hope that this one-month tournament will be a breakthrough in improving the profile of women's football. 24 nations are competing in the finals.

The Bleues were rarely troubled by a limited team from South Korea and only took nine minutes to open the scoring. Eugénie Le Sommer shot the ball close to the net.

Wendie Renard doubled the score with a head down in the 35th minute, and the high defender added another with her half-time header.

The intensity of France fell after the break, but the stadium was again delighted five minutes after the start of the game, when captain Amandine Henry has completed a superb shot in the net.
