France will introduce an eco-tax on all outgoing flights from 2020.

The country's Minister of Transport, Elisabeth Borne, announced the introduction of a € 1.50 tax on economy clbad tickets and € 9 on business clbad tickets for domestic and European flights.

This amount will increase to € 18 for business clbad tickets outside the European Union.

The tax will apply to all airlines, but some flights will not be affected. These include connecting flights in France and those bound for Corsica and French overseas departments and territories.

Speaking at a meeting held yesterday in Paris by the French Ecological Defense Council, Mr Borne added that the tax is expected to raise 180 million euros.

The proceeds will be used to finance less polluting modes of transport in France, with a focus on rail. This will include supporting the expansion of the French regional transport infrastructure outside the capital city by 2030.
