Frank Lampard congratulates Chelsea youth after 1-1 Bohemian draw in first match

Frank Lampard was pleased with the performance of young Chelsea players after his team drew 1-1 with the Bohemians in Dublin in their first management match.

Michy Batshuayi quickly secured Chelsea's lead by catching the ball in the net after Kenedy's shot was out of the box, but Eric Molloy equalized for the hosts at the last minute.

Lampard, who already had several players from the first team, has not yet found his place for the preseason, Lampard has appointed two separate XIs for the first and second half. Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kurt Zouma have all been eliminated.

Ethan Ampadu, Conor Gallagher, 17-year-old Billy Gilmour and Ian Maatsen were the top performers of the evening.

Lampard praised Chelsea youth for their performances and, although he was disappointed with his team's late dealership, he insisted that improving fitness players was the main priority.

He said after the match: "Fitness was our problem, of course. We worked on them and worked hard this morning, I wanted to stretch them and put them a little under pressure because that's what the pre-season is. The sooner we reach the desired level, the better for us.

"It was a good competition for us. We would obviously have wanted to win, as you always do, but it is not for the moment, but for individuals to get in shape and push themselves to the limit, and I thought about certain performances, Especially the young guys were really good.

'I was really happy [with their application]. I have a way of working, working as a staff and having it integrated, it is difficult and challenging for the players.

"We wanted to get straight to the point and we need to have that level of fitness in our game and I'm happy with the way they took on this challenge."

Chelsea will be the next player to face St Patrick's Athletic in Richmond Park on Saturday before the team comes to Japan to continue preparations for the new season.
