They go to Norwich today with only one goal in the league after two games. The pressure is therefore exerted on players like rookie Mason Mount and the experience of Mateo Kovacic, who still has not scored a goal for Chelsea.

Lampard, a midfielder, scored 211 goals in 27 goals in 13 years for the club, earning an average of two digits on average each season.

He said, "Modern midfielders are important: trying to reach double-digit numbers and more.

"Certainly, Kovacic has the ability and the talent to score goals – players like Mason and Ross Barkley also have these attributes.

"We have to score more goals for sure. There is enough quality in this team to win games without Eden.

"The best teams in the league tend to have players who score regularly.

"It's the challenge for us because it's something we do not do and we have to do."

"Look at Liverpool. Among the top three, they scored 60 goals last season.

"We obviously have to score in different areas of the field and that's pretty clear."
