Chelsea should get closer to Derby to discuss with Rams' manager Frank Lampard after confirming Maurizio Sarri's exit as head coach.
Italy's Sarri led the Blues to the Europa League title and third place in the Premier League after joining Napoli last summer.
The former Series A coach of the year has had an uneven season at Chelsea, including criticizing his style of play.
His authority was questioned after a controversial incident in which goalkeeper Kepa appeared to refuse to leave the field when Sarri attempted to replace him in the Carabao Cup final.
Lampard, the former favorite, who led Derby to the championship playoff final in his first season as manager, is the obvious choice to replace him and would be a popular choice with fans.

Chelsea should pay Derby £ 4 million in compensation for Lampard.
They will probably consider this to be a modest modification considering the royalty of more than 8 million pounds that they paid for the loan of the attacker Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus for the second half of last season.
