Frank Lampard reveals how Jose Mourinho had a major influence on him after becoming director of Chelsea

Frank Lampard's legendary status was established in Chelsea – but he identified Jose Mourinho as the biggest influence on his career.

And this is why Lampard is determined to rely more and more on his experience with the double supremo of Stamford Bridge to take off from his reign.

The former blues player won two leading leagues, two League Cups and one FA Cup at his time, working with the Portuguese boss.

And he admits that Mourinho made him feel a million dollars, turning him into an introverted and reluctant player as the best offensive midfielder of the Premier League era.

These skills are inseparable from Lampard's memory as he set himself the task of reinventing Chelsea after the turbulence under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

But Lampard admits he has not called any of his former bosses for advice – and probably not.

And why should he?

Lampard, who has spent more than four years working with Mourinho, knows all the management stuff Special One has known. "Even for better or for worse, you're gaining influence," said Lampard.

"And Jose Mourinho is an obvious case for me because he was the manager who radically changed my career.

"He brought success to Chelsea, but also to me personally, because my game has gone up a few notches.

"It was mainly a question of mentality – it was his confidence in me. I was quite in myself when it came, my confidence in me was not what it should have been.

"And then in the walks, this guy with a self-belief to burn and transmit – and he did it and I bought it.

"He was definitely an excellent manager for me and also a tactical lead in the game. He made me think more than I might have done before he arrived.

Lampard admitted that this is the reason why, when anyone returns Mourinho, he can not help but defend the Portuguese defense.

Mourinho is still unemployed after leaving Manchester United last December, signing his contract just over two years ago after winning the Europa League and League Cup. But Lampard insists he will win again.

"I'm suspicious of him because I think his record speaks for himself," said former Derby manager.

"In the current era, with the media and social media, everything explodes disproportionately.

"But when we take the whole speech off, we see that Jose is a manager who has won everything and has had incredible success.

"So I'm on the defensive because I worked under him and had a good relationship with him.

"It's very easy to make judgments from outside and maybe Manchester United has not finished as he would have liked.

"But he'll come back and I'm sure he'll succeed again."

Lampard also credits the Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti with opening his eyes to another management mode, as well as his own uncle, Harry Redknapp, in West Ham.

"Carlo was a fantastic manager of men who made you very comfortable working for him. And Harry was also influential in my early years, "he told PFA Magazine 4, The Player. "I'm very fortunate to have so many positive influences and to be able to take excerpts from them.
