Frank Sanchez can “steal the show” from Tyson Fury when the Cuban heavyweight aims for a better career win this weekend, co-manager Mike Borao said.
The unbeaten 29-year-old collides with rival Efe Ajagba on the undercard for Fury’s third WBC title fight against Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.
Sanchez trains alongside Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and is committed to emulating the Mexican star’s success.
“Frank can steal the show with an explosive victory over Efe Ajagba, most definitely,” said Mike Borao who guides Sanchez’s career with his co-manager Lupe Valencia.
“The reason we got into this fight is because Frank is several miles faster and technically superior.
As the boxing community has seen, Usyk’s skill and speed won out over Joshua’s strength and power. Usyk was a bad style for Joshua.
Likewise, Frank is bad style for Ajagba. That said, of course, there is always danger against a big puncher like Ajagba, but Frank is looking for Canelo-type greatness.
“To be great you have to fight tough fights like this. However, I expect Frank to downplay the danger and neutralize Ajagba’s power the same way Usyk did against Joshua. “
Sanchez sits in 11th place in the WBC rankings, while Ajagba has a few spots ahead of 8th place, and the winner could be well placed to challenge the winner of Fury-Wilder 3 in the near future.
But Borao told Sky Sports: “It would be a big mistake to look past Ajagba.
“Frank’s training camp for this fight was grueling, so he’s well prepared and is looking forward to the fight.
“Looking ahead, of course, a win will put him on the list of potential title contenders.
“Frank is very close, but we’ll be charting the final course with Al Haymon and PBC after he scores a big win on October 9th!”
