Family and friends remember the artist
Comedian Freddie Starr rests in Merseyside, a month after his death, at the age of 76.
Fans and their families gathered at the parish church of Prescot to attend the service.
His casket was taken away in the church to the sounds of Starr 's rendition of the song Don' t, Elvis Presley, and was applauded while it was being worn. on another cover of Elvis, Trouble.
His coffin carries the words "Liverpool legend" engraved on one side and "return to the sender" on the other.
Starr often performed in imitation of Elvis Presley and Return to Sender was one of the songs that he had featured in his 1981 album, Spirit of Elvis.

Fans are gathered to pay tribute
Several dozen spectators gathered in the rain to pay tribute to them, and others watched the arrivals from the Deanes House lounge, the pub next to the church.

Reading a tribute from Sister Brenda of Starr, Canon Taylor said, "Freddie has accomplished a great deal in her life and she has many memories of her kindness and generosity."

"But his comic genius sparked laughter and joy shared by thousands."
It was feared that the comedian and singer would have a funeral for a poor man in Spain, where he lived at the end of his life, until a funeral director from the UK intervened.

Michael Fogg, a funeral director based in Sheffield, offered help after seeing information about the artist 's resting place, claiming that a poor man' s funeral would have been "wrong".
Starr's family accepted his offer to cover the £ 20,000 repatriation of Starr's corps and the organization's service to Prescot. Starr grew up near Huyton and is buried next to his mother.

Starr's niece, Jean Fowell, said his family was happy to let Mr. Fogg take him home.

His friend Melvin Storer of Colville, Leicestershire, said: "He was living above a karaoke bar in Spain and died in fact a poor, penniless man after paying all his legal costs.

He was very brilliant, Storer said. "You could not stop laughing Every time you saw Freddie, he just made you laugh."

Family members were to attend the funeral. Starr was married four times and had six children.
Fans were invited to wear a red tie or red rose to honor his famous Teddy Boy jacket.

The artist made a name for himself in the early 70's, becoming a fixture on television in the '70s and' 80s, and was featured in the 1986 newspaper The Sun's "The Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster"

"We just wanted to show that he gave us hours and hours of endless fun in the '70s and' 80s," she said.
"Many people after the Yewtree affair had given him up." When he was cleared, he still could not come back into the spotlight.

Michael McGuinness, 22, from Prescot, had been introduced to Starr routines by his parents.
"Me and my mom, every time we are at home, we always drink a few beers and we always put his videos on YouTube," he said. "He was hilarious, absolutely hilarious, his imitation of Elvis, his imitation of Adam Faith – hilarious."
