The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) announced a free screening exercise for all practicing journalists by the end of March this year.

GJA President Affail Monney, who launched the health train campaign for journalists across the country on Wednesday in Accra, said it aims to help all media professionals control and improve their health. health.

Mr. Monney announced that GJA would create a partnership with Impact 360 International – a research, advocacy and empowerment organization – to provide free medical screening to journalists.

"The death of journalists is very alarming and we have to start taking our health seriously, our work is stressful and sometimes dangerous, but we have little time to rest or get treatment," he said.

Medical screening would take place in the various media outlets before moving to all parts of Ghana.

Clifford Ladzikpo, managing director of Impact 360 International, said Ghana can not afford to lose its journalists for preventable diseases.

"We seek to ensure fairness and accessibility between journalists and we bring medical screening to the door of our journalist because of his busy schedule," he added.

Edwin Arthur, guest speaker at the press launch, urged all journalists across the country to take advantage of the opportunity and participate in the screening campaign. He also called on media owners to allow their reporters to join the campaign.

The health screening campaign in the media is expected to begin before the end of March 2019, and concerns all people working in the different media houses.

Dr. Juliana Enos, Senior Research Fellow at the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana, who chaired the occasion, reiterated that the campaign would encourage citizens to regularly check their health status.

"There is a key relationship between health and development and, as journalists play a vital role in the development of the country, triggered the implementation of medical screening," she said.

Nicknamed "The Media Health Train", this campaign is an initiative of Impact 360 International to select media professionals and educate media practitioners about regular screening as a tool to reduce preventable deaths and reduce the risk of death. chronic diseases.
