Free travel for London Overground commuters despite train delays

London Overground travelers will benefit from a month of free travel after the announcement of new delays in new trains.

Transport for London (TfL) had to use new trains to get to the 14 km Gospel Oak line from Barking Line.

New electric trains were due to operate in 2018, but the Bombardier manufacturer is still testing, according to TfL.

Jon Fox, of TfL, said the customers "have waited too long for the trains they were promised."

The upgrade was due to a doubling of demand since 2008, according to Network Rail.

TfL said the new electric trains were twice as large as the current diesel trains, which should have been replaced in the spring of 2018.

Mr. Fox said: "Given the current delays, we are modifying three electric trains that are normally used elsewhere on the network, and we will put them in service on the Gospel Oak to Barking line until the new electric trains have arrived. . "
