This would mean that the role of the national leagues would be diminished and that France would risk losing an automatic place in the Champions League, which is now returning to the team finishing second in Ligue 1.
The dates of the new Champions League would also conflict with national calendars.
"The media do not invent that," said Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish Liga. AFP Friday.
"The question is now how to block the path taken by UEFA and the ECA (the European Association of Clubs) to keep the name of the competition, but to completely change the nature."

More than 900 European clubs were convened in Madrid on 6-7 May by an badociation representing the European national leagues.
