(CNN) – The French medical regulator, the Haute Autorité de la Santé (HAS), has approved the deployment of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine in the country, according to a statement released by the regulator on Friday.

The move comes after the European Medicines Agency approved the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday.

The HAS noted that Moderna was “the second vaccine available to fight against COVID-19” in France after that of Pfizer-BioNTech and that it “will make it possible to amplify the vaccination campaign”.

On Thursday, Health Minister Olivier Véran said the first 50,000 doses of Moderna would be delivered on Monday, with the goal of reaching more than 2 million by June.

“In all, we are planning a little more than 100,000 vaccines for the month of January for Moderna, an additional 500,000 in February, a little over a million in March and April and more than 2 million in May and June,” a declared Véran.

France has come under close scrutiny due to its slow vaccination process, administering a total of 45,000 people on Thursday, a number that left them out compared to European neighbors.
