Friday's deadline is near for central defender Man Utd; Woodward sees his attacked offer pushed back

Manchester United's hopes of adding a new central defender could face a deadline on Friday, as their first bid on Nicolas Pepe was rejected, all in today's newspapers.

MANUTD TRANSFER TURMOIL

It has been widely reported that Man Utd GM Ed Woodward missed the final leg of United's pre-season tour with the goal of getting some transfers on the line.

The telegraph claim that Woodward will have to accelerate his movement for a fullback as a result of Toby Alderweireld release clause, which expires on Friday.

Leicester City's Harry Maguire is Ole Gunnar Solskajer's first defensive target, but Brendan Rodgers once again said the Foxes were in no hurry to sell England and they did not actually have to sell former defender of Sheffield United.

Time is running out, because if they fail to get Maguire to work by Friday, Alderweireld's release clause on a long-term goal of 25 million pounds will expire. The feeling is that the leader of Spurs, Daniel Levy, will then pbad this right to 40 million pounds sterling.

Elsewhere, Yahoo Sport France, reports that the first United offer on Lille striker Nicolas Pepe was rejected.

Lille includes about 70 million pounds sterling for the player and many could depend on the future of Romelu Lukaku.

Inter Milan are dragging their feet to meet United's asking price for the Belgian striker and Calciomercato says Inter's new director, Antonio Conte, has asked the club's leaders to show the greatest energy to obtain the Edin Dzeko of Rome.
