The sports director of Genoa, Giorgio Perinetti, has published a new update on the future of Krzysztof Piatek.
The Polish striker is expected to trade Genoa against AC Milan this month, but his transfer also has consequences for Chelsea.
The Blues worked on an agreement to bring Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge, but this decision was delayed by complications related to Milan's transfer transactions.
Higuain is loaned to Milan by Juventus and a purchase option has been inserted into this loan agreement. However, Higuain wants to leave and Milan does not want to be left behind, so they try to find a replacement before allowing Higuain to reduce his loan contract.
Piatek is this replacement and all of Chelsea's eyes have been attentive to what is happening with this potential transfer.
But there might be some light at the end of the tunnel for blues fans.
Genoa faced Milan in Serie A today. The Rossoneri won 2-0. But off the pitch, the directors of the two clubs could work together to reach an agreement with Piatek.
And it seems that a move could soon be confirmed.
Perinetti told Calcio Mercato: "Negotiations are not defined yet, some details are missing, we will speak with the directors of AC Milan after the match, let's see if we will conclude the contract.
"We have to make a difficult choice: if we do not sell it, what motivations will it have? It's the same doubt that AC Milan has with Higuain who wants to join Chelsea.
"What is missing? Details are important, I can reveal everything, maybe I will meet AC Milan after the match, let's see what happens."
