Health facility researchers in France recently conducted a study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, to determine the relationship between overall mortality risk and consumption of ultra-processed foods.

After badyzing the results, they found that ultra-processed foods accounted for more than 14% of the total weight of food consumed and 29% of the total calories consumed.

In addition, they calculated a higher risk of premature death of 14% for each 10% increase in ultra-processed food consumed. In total, 602 deaths occurred during the course of the study.

Scientists have acknowledged that more tests are needed to confirm their results, but they felt that additives, packaging and treatment of such foods could all be factors that have a negative impact on our health.
