Fujifilm brings back a monochrome film

Fujifilm announced its return to the black and white film market after stopping production more than a year ago. A new film, Neopan 100 Acros II, is being developed following comments from "Millennials and GenZs", quoted in the press release, which the company describes as "new movie enthusiasts".

Acros is an iconic brand that Fujifilm also uses for simulating monochrome film in its renowned X-Series digital cameras. Neopan 100 Acros II will be available in 35mm and 120mm formats. Fujifilm claims that its Super Fine-Σ technology gives a finer grain and sharpness than the original Neopan 100 Acros. Fujifilm will start selling it in Japan this fall and send it to other markets according to demand.

The news is remarkable, as film photographers are used to waiting for bad news from companies like Fujifilm, which is one of the last manufacturers. Earlier this year, Fujifilm announced a 30% price increase for its photographic film products and was stopping it often, as it did with its monochrome line last year.
