The minority Parliament in Ghana has opposed the new taxes contained in the mid-year budget revision of the 2019 government.
Speaking to the press one day after Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, informed Parliament of the increase in taxes on the energy sector, the minority said that this decision would plunge Ghana into poverty and hardship.
"These measures will send shock waves into many households and businesses, as this will only exacerbate the unsustainable hardship that Ghanaians are already living," Ministry spokesman Ato Forson told AFP on Tuesday. Finance Officer, Mr. Ato Forson.
If Parliament approves the budget review, diesel and gasoline prices will rise by 20 GHp per liter, while those of liquefied petroleum gas will increase by 8 GHp per kg.
The minority vowed to resist these increases if the government ignored their call.
