FURUNO Launches Single Band GNSS Receivers with 4.5ns Stability

Nishinomiya, Japan, March 25, 2019 / PRNewswire / – Furuno Electric Co., Ltd. (FURUNO), based in Nishinomiya, Japan, developed models GT-88 and GF-8801/02 /03/04/05 for users who need synchronized signals in UTC time to meet the new requirements of 5G. They provide synchronized synchronization signals in UTC time (1 PPS / 10 MHz) by receiving GNSS satellite signals. The stability obtained is better than that of an atomic clock, including a rubidium. The GT / GF-88 series includes a brand new algorithm, called Dynamic Satellite Selection, which provides outstanding multipath mitigation, especially in urban canyon environments. This algorithm was developed by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) based in Tokyo, Japan.

– An extremely high stability of 4.5 nds (1 sigma) is obtained, requiring only the reception of GNSS satellites with L1 frequency band (1575.42 MHz). This goal has been achieved by improving advanced position estimation algorithms and optimizing the position calculation between several GNSS satellite constellations. It allows users to achieve the performance required by 5G without any modification to existing single-band GNSS antennas.

– It incorporates Dynamic Satellite Selection (TM), an advanced multipath mitigation algorithm developed by NTT. In general, time synchronization performance deteriorates in urban canyon environments as a result of multipath propagation. Dynamic satellite selection (trademark) reduces this time error by one-fifth. This offers more flexibility when installing GNSS antennas. As a result, the GT / GF-88 series now allows GNSS antennas to be installed on walls, tall buildings, and other harsh reception environments.

– The GT / GF-88 series continues to support GPS, GLONASS and QZSS satellite constellations and now adds Galileo support. As the total number of satellites available increases, operational stability also increases.
