Galamstop Working Group for the Protection of the Birim River inaugurated

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, inaugurated a "Galamstop" working group to protect the Birim River and its tributaries of the eastern region.

The 62 members of the working group were trained in diving, swimming and other techniques to badist them in their activities, while boats were acquired to facilitate their work on the river.

Event

The working group was inaugurated at a stakeholder meeting on illegal mining in Kwabeng, West Atiwa District, Eastern Region.

The event brought together participants from five mining districts and municipalities, namely Denkyembour, East and West Atiwa, South Fanteakwa and South Abuakwa.

Importance

According to Professor Frimpong-Boateng, the meeting also aimed to find ways to stop illegal mining activities in the Birim River, adding that "things are improving, but we want a dramatic improvement in the Birim River. that is why we are committed to you. "

The minister explained that the government had confiscated many excavators to prevent illegal minors, including foreigners, to make the situation worse.

Frimpong-Boateng said the government was determined to ensure that people do not engage in illegal mining activities in the water plans.

"We also use drones to collect information about the activities of illegal miners.

We have provided 15 UAVs and trained drone pilots to help "Vanguard Operation" in their operations, "he said.

Professor Frimpong-Boateng further pointed out that it was illegal to flirt, exploit in rivers or use chemicals in water plans for the manufacture of minerals.
