Gangster-policeman on the Apam-Mankessim highway extorting money from motorists – according to Kwesi Aning

The director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) claims a police officer extorting money from motorists on the Apam-Mankessim highway in the central region.

Professor Kwesi Aning described the unidentified officer as an intimidating officer threatening drivers in that part of the country.

Speaking to Samson Lardy Anyenini on JoyNews News FileOn Saturday, the security expert said that individuals who are vested with state power should not be allowed to be terrifying citizens without a valid reason.

“Yesterday I was traveling, right after Apam there is this pretty well built policeman who was in white who stopped my vehicle and said ‘Boss, today is Friday do something’, and the posture intimidating. and threatening was that if don’t pay, I’ll take care of you.

“Once again, I appeal to the IGP and the regional police commander [that there is] this great officer, and he’s so great I’m sure all MTTD officers know him. Please, this man’s behavior represented the gangsterism we are talking about in Wa, and it was reflected in Ejura, ”he said.

Professor Aning said the officer’s behavior on the highway was detrimental to the envisaged relationship between the uniform forces and the civilian population.

He promised to provide video evidence while calling on the regional police commander, the IGP and the interior minister to investigate and deal with the accused officer.

The director of the faculty of academic affairs and research of KAIPTC also called for a questioning on the institutional culture and the training of police and military.

Prof Aning said a denial of insecurity in Ghana by the police is laughable and will only worsen the security situation in parts of the country.
