The Ghana Association of Technical Public Health Officers (GAPHTO) has opened an investigation into an alleged theft of covid-19 vaccine by health workers.
Members of the Association condemned the act as it was the cornerstone of successful public health interventions at all levels of Ghana’s health system.
According to a press release, GAPHTO has read a media publication about the alleged theft and will apply penalties associated with such violations.
“GAPHTO read a post in media sections indicating that 3 Service staff who work at different levels of the healthcare system in the Greater Accra region have been arrested for allegedly stealing and selling Covid-19 vaccines .
“It will apply the appropriate measures / sanctions as prescribed by our Constitution and the Code of Ethics will be applied if said members are found guilty,” part of the statement said.
Ministry of Health employees further assure the general public as well as all stakeholders that “we will ensure that everyone who is eligible for vaccines receives them free of charge.” Association management will continue to monitor developments and act appropriately. “
