Gareth Southgate was happy to see his plan come to fruition in Podgorica, while England scored five goals for the second consecutive game against Montenegro.
The boss of the Three Lions revealed that he had targeted the progression of the flanks of this match and that he was rewarded by a smooth attack performance.
The goals of Michael Keane, Ross Barkley (2), Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling were sufficient tonight, after England lost to Marko Vesovic's goal.
But it's the performance of Sterling and the 18-year-old, Callum Hudson-Odoi, who made the manager purr.
"I'm really happy," he said.
"The game was simple, in that we had talked all week about using the width and the badurance that we had not refused the use of our wingers.
"That's where we were fabulously productive at night and young Callum Hudson-Odoi had a fabulous performance and showed what he showed us all week.
"And for the team to recover from a goal behind, at a place that was very difficult for us before, we showed a good character and it was a good test for us."
Southgate watches his team from the bench in Montenegro
The young Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea is one of the newest members of the Young Lions family to join the Southgate team, having impressed with the development teams.
And, like all his young players, Southgate wants to see them all work hard to improve and keep their place in his group.
"With young players, it always belongs to them," he added.
"You can see the talent, and his candidacy with us has been excellent and he must continue in this way.
"It's a big step forward for him, but like any player, you have to constantly work and try to improve."
Southgate also revealed that England would report racist violence against players at UEFA, following an incident that occurred late in the second half.
"We'll report it, I know what I heard, an abuse of Danny Rose when he was booked at the end of the match," he said.
"I do not doubt what happened. We will ensure that this information is officially communicated as it is not acceptable. We must make sure to support our players. "
