Gary Lineker reveals how Jadon Sancho's move to Dortmund could help local Premier League talent

Jadon Sancho forced English football to carry out a serious investigation after his move to Borussia Dortmund.

This is the opinion of Gary Lineker, pioneer in the 1980s when he went to Barcelona and admits he is surprised that more English players do not go abroad.

Lineker praises Sancho's attitude, but he also believes that the big Premier League clubs will now have to give young people more chances than to risk seeing a talent drained into the Bundesliga.

Lineker, the presenter of BT Sport, said: "I went abroad but not at this age! It is undeniable that this broadens horizons. There are advantages and disadvantages.

Jadon Sancho's move to Germany could wake up Premier League clubs to their own talent

"The advantages are that players will gain a lot of experience, especially in good clubs in good leagues, like the Bundesliga and playing for good clubs. I think it's a good thing.

"Jadon Sancho really looks like a player. It really does. Callum Hudson-Odoi is different again but he is an incredibly talented player and Phil Foden was at the event on Monday night. I sat down with him and he's another player. I think he will play more and more with time.

"I think it's great to have young players overseas. Reiss Nelson is there too, so it seemed like Hudson-Odoi was going to leave, it did not happen. This is an interesting twist of events.

"But we have to look at this and think," Why are our young players forced to go there? "Why do not we give them the opportunity as quickly as they have the talent.

"I guess it's because we spend a lot of money on whoever shows up, rather than promoting ours, but I think it will change because of the quality we've got.

"If you're good enough, you'll have games. You will be. The real cream is still coming out. I really believe it. If you are so good. But most players do not really play until they are 21, 22 or 23 years old.

Phil Foden had little chance in City

Callum Hudson-Odoi submitted a transfer request to flee Chelsea last month

"It has already begun to change in some clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool in particular, which is a very good thing. We have gone through a period where hardly any of our players have been abroad for a long time.

"For me, it was great. It was a very good learning curve, playing a different football style, having to adapt to a different pace of the game and adapting off the pitch, an opportunity to learn the language, which was great.

"It expands your horizons in different ways. Go as young as that. This worked clearly for them. They are obviously very talented but they also have the mentality. "
