The Great Consolidated People's Party (GCPP) congratulated the government led by President Akufo-Addo for the bold decision to amend certain provisions of the 1992 Constitution to allow political parties to participate in district and regional elections. to the governance process.

In February 2019, the government tabled a bill in Parliament to amend the 1992 Constitution for the election of directors of metropolitan areas, municipalities and districts (MMDCE).
The articles likely to be amended are Article 243 (1) on the appointment of MMDCE by the President and Article 55 (3), which prohibits the participation of political parties in district elections.
Amekah, also a former deputy secretary general of the late Democratic Freedom Party, urged traditional authorities and civil society organizations to support the national referendum in September this year.
