Some critics might suggest that the faithful Gemma Collins – who is currently appearing on our screens in Dancing On Ice – has tended to become a little too dramatic in the last two years.
But a close reading of her fascinating second book, How To Be A Diva, reveals that she has drawn drama from an early age.
Take this phantasmagorical anecdote of a supernatural scenario:
"There was only one time I was afraid of what you call a spiritual event, because I felt that dark energy was at stake.
"It sounds crazy, but it was triggered by a pair of shoes."
Gemma staged expertly: "I was eight years old and I was in Mom's room in the house where we lived at the time in a place called Rise Park." Mom was in the bathroom next door and I was sitting on her bed talking to her. "
Then TOWIE's favorite skillfully cuts through the action: "Suddenly, I felt the hair standing on the back of my neck, it was a very strange and disturbing sensation." I shivered a little.
"I was facing Mum's wardrobe and the door was open, she had carefully put a few boxes on the top shelf.
"Without warning, one of them flew across the room, he did not fall, he was thrown.
"And it hit my head and ran amiss, he hit the wall behind me with a thud, the shock made me stand up straight."
Some people, ordinary people, could attribute this fact to a negligible stack of boxes, or a natural slip, but the GC is more in tune with the spirit world than the average mortal:
"For a second, I sat with my mouth open, then I screamed hysterically.
"Mom ran out of the bathroom to see what had happened.
"I was so shocked that the words did not come out and in the end, she had to take me by the shoulders to try to make me calm down."
Gemma goes on to speculate, quite naturally, that the phenomenon of poltergeist could have been triggered by the less than ideal taste of her mother for the shoe. "It was in the late 80s, so there were questionable fashion choices that were made at the time."
How to become a diva is more than just haunted shoe boxes. As Gemma herself has said, "I think this book is bigger than the Bible and you know why? Because it will spread joy like the Bible …
"Do you know how it affects our hearts and everything? My book does the same thing »
Certainly, the saga of the spiritual shoe box will spread throughout the country. Thank you Gemma.
