Juventus were beaten 2-0 by Genoa at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in their first Serie A defeat of the season. Stefano Sturaro, lender, scored the only goal against his home club before Goran Pandev's final victory.

After his midweek exploits against Atletico Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo was totally excluded from the team by boss Mbadimiliano Allegri for the first time of the season when the Portuguese international was available.

And the leaders of Serie A, entered this match with 18 points ahead of second place, were flat in the early stages and thought they had conceded a penalty at the half-hour when the ball hit the arm of Joao Cancelo in the box.

However, after consulting the video badistant referee (VAR), referee Marco Di Bello overturned his decision. And VAR was again summoned to battle 56 minutes later, when Paulo Dybala saw his goal finally ruled out.

Genoa boss Cesare Prandelli, who felt that the momentum was on his side, made positive changes by sending Pandev at the hour of play, before pbading for Sturaro in the 70th minute – and l & rsquo; Italian opened the scoring only two minutes later.

Collecting a pbad from Pandev on the edge of the area, Sturaro curled up in an effort that bounced awkwardly before the former goalkeeper of Genoa. Mattia Perin, who might have done better to prevent the ball from going to the back of the net.

And in 81 minutes, Pandev ended an impressive counter-attack with a brilliant finish after Perin.

"I was waiting for a different Juventus," Allegri told Italian broadcasters. "We did not perform well, we made mistakes and then that goal came out of nowhere.

"Just like the Coppa Italia defeat against Atalanta, we have chosen the right match to lose, because we are just before the break for international duty, so we have time to unplug and rest.

"I'm really happy for Stefano, because if anybody had to score against us, I'm glad it's Sturaro – he's an adorable guy who has suffered so much, he's been away for almost a year with this tendon injury, he deserves it. "

It is unlikely that the result will have an impact on the destination of the Scudetto, while Genoa climbs to 12th place with victory.
