Fans of A song of ice and fire waited for a decade The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the beloved fantasy series, to be released at last. But a new blog post from George RR Martin suggests fans should expect to keep waiting, as the author appears to be on the way to finishing the highly anticipated book.

Martin wrote on his blog, cheekily named Not A Blog, that he felt overwhelmed by the pressure to finish. Winter winds. He gave no clear indication of a timeline and, in fact, he didn’t even directly mention Winter winds in the blog post. But he seems to admit he’s struggling to finish it, writing that “when a lot of things happen really fast, I get further and further behind.”

“I’m very late right now, and the prospect of trying to catch up just seems more and more oppressive to me,” Martin wrote.

It’s been 25 years since Game of Thrones, the first book in the series, came out and fans are increasingly concerned that the 72-year-old Martin won’t be able to complete the series. Martin revealed he had been officially vaccinated, but he also said he had lost six friends since November, a few of whom have died from COVID.
