The principal of Jachie-Pramso high school in the Ashanti region, Francis Donkor, was banned by the Ghana Education Service (GES) from September 7, 2021, for mercilessly beating a student.

He was responsible for handing over the administration and management of the school to the regional director of education in Ashanti.

The decision, according to the GES, is to allow a full investigation into the matter.

Mr. Donkor gave Mary Amoako, a 19-year-old senior student, many lashes for her disrespect.

The principal was reportedly angry that Mary had given her jacket to a student who had been instructed by the principal to go to the shirtless dorm to wear the school uniform.

According to Mary, she later gave her jacket to the student to wear after the principal left with the student’s non-prescribed shirt.

The principal, according to the girl, later saw the boy wearing a jacket as he (the student) went to the dorm to wear the school uniform.

The enraged manager then decided to teach Mary a lesson for disrespect, beating her mercilessly, leaving her with severe bruises on Mary’s back.

Confirming the ban to Kasapa News, Education Ministry public relations officer Kwasi Kwarteng said the regional GES leadership in Ashanti had opened an investigation into the case and would apply the necessary sanction if necessary.

He reminded the school authorities of preschool establishments that corporal punishment (whipping) remained prohibited and stressed the need for school authorities not to violate the rules of the GES.
