Asawase MP Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka explained why he had asserted himself and determined when the Speaker of Parliament was elected in January last month.

He revealed on Accra-based Citi TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com that he saw an opportunity to repay current President Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin who played a pivotal role in his political journey.

Aljahi Muntaka noted that without the intervention of the seasoned politician, he might not have been a lawmaker, praising him for all his sacrifices by going to his home to convince him through his mother before he don’t think about it.

“I remember when he became a speaker he was thanking us and I said no I was only paying back what he did for me in 2005. He went to my house and talked to my mom. He then came with the regional imam… if there is one person with whom I do not joke in my life, it is my mother. She got mad and said you little boy, all these big guys come over and say you won’t hold on? What do you think you are? Who do you think you are? What kind of waste is it? Better to go tell them you’ll stand, ”he revealed.

On his condition of agreeing to run in the by-elections, he revealed, “I told them my mother was pushing, can we make a deal? Bagbin asked what it was. I told them they would go for a term so you would use that period to prepare a candidate and I would wash my hands. To this day, I’m still doing a trimester, ”he laughed.
