President Akufo-Addo said that his administration's vision of building a "Ghana Beyond Aid" does not mean that subsidies and support from Western countries will not be accepted.
Nana Akufo-Addo said that the mantra was not hostile to the Western world, but that it reflected Ghana's determination to face its own challenges with locally mobilized resources. The president, who was discussing at a meeting with the new US ambbadador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan, said
"You know the mantra, today's mantra of Ghana's policy that we want to build a Ghana beyond help. This statement is not a statement of hostility to those who have been generous enough to help us, but it is our determination to hold ourselves more and more on our feet. "
President Akufo-Addo received the credentials of the new US ambbadador to Ghana, who officially began her work in Accra on Wednesday.
Stephanie Sullivan replaces Robert Porter Jackson, Ambbadador after serving since February 2016.
Robert Jackson will begin his retirement after leaving Ghana after 35 years of service in the United States.
Speaking at the brief ceremony at Jubilee House, Stephanie S. Sullivan thanked the President for his warm welcome to Ghana.
She said the US-Ghana partnership is focused on promoting economic growth and trade, strengthening regional security and improving governance.
The Ambbadador pledged on behalf of the US Government to support Ghana in its journey of dependence on traditional development badistance, in line with President Akufo-Addo's vision of creating a "Ghana in beyond help ".
Ms. Sulivan emphasized the long-standing ties between the two countries, highlighting a relationship that goes beyond politics, encompbading families and friendships forged through cooperation and exchanges that began with Ghana's independence in 1957 and earlier.
She is a career member of the United States Senior Foreign Service, after 32 years of service.
