President Nana Akufo-Addo launched the Ghana Beyond Aid Charter at the May 1 celebration in Accra.
He told the many thousands of workers who gathered at Independence Square for the Workers' Day parade that "Ghana Beyond Aid is putting our country on a path of irreversible development."
"With the blessing of the Almighty and our collective effort, we will walk confidently from poverty to prosperity to create the Ghana that our ancestors envisioned," said President Akufo-Addo on May 1, 2019.
He said: "On behalf of the people of Ghana, I wish to thank the Committee for Assistance Beyond Ghana's Assistance for the good work done", while he waved the charter .
Upon his inauguration on 7 January 2017, the President expressed the desire of his Government to prudently manage the country's natural resources so as to finance the country's development program without recourse to external badistance – a program that the president called a "Ghana beyond help".
Nana Akufo-Addo said that realizing her vision of a Ghana Beyond Help "requires a deliberate and qualitative change in every aspect of our lives; in particular, in the structure of our economy, the nature of our infrastructure, the education of our young people and the acquisition of skills, and especially in our attitudes and our attachment to the values that define us. "
He said: "Even without help, with the best will in the world and the most charitable governments in place in the so-called donor countries, help will never be enough to develop Ghana to the desired level. Aid has never been designed to bring us to the status of a developed country. "
