National Identification Authority (NIA) Executive Secretary Professor Ken Attafuah said Ghanaians should not rush to get their Ghanaian card for SIM card registration.

According to him, there are six months left to end the registration of the SIM card. The National Identification Authority has therefore taken many steps to ensure that every Ghanaian receives their card.

There has been a massive outcry, especially on social media, over how those who do not have their Ghanaian card can register their SIM card with the SIM card registration exercise starting today, October 1, 2021.

However, the executive secretary of the National Identification Authority, Professor Ken Attafuah, said in an interview with Pious Baidoo-Banson of Peace FM that major initiatives have been taken by his team to ensure that everyone receive the card.

He said the NIA has opened 34 offices at Ghana Revenue Authority offices across the country, where Ghanaians can register for free.

Professor Ken Attafuah said that after October 18, 2021, there will be over 270 regional and district offices across the country that one can visit for their new Ghana map, an update in case of error on yours or a replacement if yours is missing.

He added that there is no need to go to the NIA headquarters in Accra to get your Ghana card, as you can get it in the district you registered after October 18 of this year.

He explained that acquiring a new card is free but finding a correction (update) and replacement will cost you 30 cedis.

In addition, any business organization that asks the NIA to come to its offices to register workers must pay 100 Ghc cedis per capita as required by law, as well as 150 Ghc per capita, to register any household when he is invited to do so.

Professor Ken Attafuah added that those who want premium services (protocols) will have to pay 250 Ghc cedis which are all backed by law and approved by the Ghanaian Parliament.
