Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah's contract was extended for six months, allowing him to take over the Black Stars until the end of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars coach was hoping to extend his two-year contract, but he only signed a six-month contract until the end of the tournament in Egypt.

The two-year contract of the former defender will expire next month, but the GFA's standardization committee wants the coach's future to be decided pending his performance at the CAN.

The chairman of the standardization committee, Kofi Amoah, insists that six months before the end of the tournament, a contract will be given to Appiah until the end of the tournament in Egypt.

"The government has decided to extend the contract of coach Kwasi Appiah to the CAN period and we will make sure we get our money's worth," Kofi Amoah said Friday.

"Coach Kwasi Appiah must win the 2019 CAA. If he does not win, he is gone. This is stated in his contract."

Kofi Amoah said the Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah would be shown the way out if he did not win the CAN 2019 in Egypt.

Ghana has already qualified for this year's show in Egypt.

The Black Stars will have a big mountain to climb to win the title because the number of countries participating in the tournament has increased from 16 to 24.

After winning the continental trophy four times, the Black Stars have not managed to win it for 37 years.
