This year, National Chocolate Week was officially launched under the theme “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana”.
The official launch event which took place at the lavish Marriot Hotel was graced by the presence of the designated Minister of Information, the Honorable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and other dignitaries. This year’s National Chocolate Week is a collaboration between the Ghana Cocoa Board and the Ministry of Tourism.
During his speech, the Minister-designate urged all stakeholders to play their respective roles in telling the story of Ghana’s chocolate or cocoa in a way that will ultimately boost consumption not only during this week, but also everything throughout the year and beyond. The chocolate week he mentioned is to compliment Valentine’s Day and encourage Ghanaian cocoa consumption.
The event witnessed a good rendition of the chocolate song composed by Kofi Kinaata and Amerado.
When guests arrived at the scene, they were greeted by a cocoa farm entrance to bring the essence of the event to life. It also allowed the guests to see the cocoa tree and cocoa pods for real.
There was also an exhibition where the media, dignitaries and other guests had the opportunity to engage with chocolatiers who make wonderful products like soaps and facial scrubs, chocolate muffins and an assortment of chocolate bars, all from Ghana Cocoa.
The launch culminated with the unveiling of the largest cocoa hold Ghana has ever seen amid fireworks and jubilation.
The week-long celebration will begin with the activation of the brand in select transport terminals and banks, from February 8 to 14, 2021, where customers will receive free chocolates after frequenting certain services.
The excitement continues at the very first GH Chocolate City at the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout, the place to see and be seen. Meet your favorite radio and TV personalities, and a place where you can relive the journey of chocolate and share your chocolate moment on digital platforms and win prizes under strict covid protocols.
Other activities include the Inter-University Hall Cocoa Quiz competition, the chocolate history competition and the bus.
