Ghana and the Czech Republic have signed a € 47 million credit facility for the supply of 50 steel bridges in some communities in the country as part of infrastructure works.
Minister of Roads and Highways, Akwasi Amoako-Atta, signed the agreement on behalf of the Government in Accra for the design, supply and installation of small and medium steel bridges.
The project includes the design, supply and installation of steel components for the construction of new bridges, as well as the replacement of existing bridges on rivers and pedestrian bridges.
According to the agreement, the feeder roads department will have 20 bridges, the Ghana Highway Bridge 20 and the Urban Roads Department.
The project should be completed within twenty-four (24) months from the date of commencement of the work.
The main objectives of the project are to meet basic human needs by improving the accessibility of hospitals, schools and other socio-cultural facilities, which are considerably hampered by the lack of bridges at watercourse crossings. It also aims to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at river crossings and to improve the flow of goods and people in areas of influence.

It is expected that by the end of the project, access to schools, hospitals and markets will be ensured all year round, thus eliminating interruptions in the transportation of people, farm products and food. other objects during the rainy season.
