The Ghana Health Service announces that it is launching an administrative investigation into the theft of certain Covid-19 vaccines by three health professionals in the Greater Accra region.
In a press release, GHS not only condemned the alleged act, but also promised to ensure that appropriate penalties are given to the culprits if they are found guilty.
“The Service condemns such an alleged criminal act in no uncertain terms. An administrative investigation is underway and appropriate sanctions will be applied if found guilty.
“The Service is committed to cooperating with security agencies to unravel the circumstances that led to this unlawful act,” the statement read.
It comes after National Security arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the theft and sale of government-owned COVISHIELD vaccines.
A 37-year-old disease control officer from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Stephen Dzisenu, allegedly stole 36 vials of COVIDSHIELD and a disease control officer from the Bawalashie polyclinic, Lord Pabitey, now at large, also reportedly reportedly stole 36 vials of COVIDSHIELD. stole 26 vials. vials of COVIDSHIELD.
Cosmos Allotey, a 42-year-old occupational health and safety officer, allegedly received the stolen COVIDSHIELD from Pabitey and Dzisenu.

Joseph Knight Gaisie, project assistant and former laboratory technician at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, is also being held for incitement to crime.
The Service assured Ghanaians that the vaccines are not for sale, adding that citizens should report anyone who tries to sell them a vaccine.
“The Service once again assures the general public that, with all stakeholders, we will ensure that everyone who is eligible for the vaccine gets it free of charge.”
