Samuel Dotse, National Coordinator of the Ghana Climate Action Network, pleaded in Accra on Friday for this week's international event – the African Climate Week celebrations – which will take place in Ghana.

The event would offer Ghana the platform in search of international and local financial support to support its GH-NDC, which required about $ 22.6 billion to be implemented.

The content of the NDC, which also described the national action plan on climate change, was the foundation of the Paris Agreement in 2016, in which about 196 countries were expected to individually write documents to indicate to the community. how they intended to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to climate change.

Dotse said climate change is a serious threat to Ghana, which continues to threaten national economic growth and the livelihoods of the country's vulnerable population.

He said: "While Ghana, like the rest of Africa, is one of the countries that contribute the least to global emissions, it is leading the way in mitigating the effects of climate change and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Adapting by means of initiatives to combat climate change ".

He said the Paris Agreement work program answered questions on how countries should report their greenhouse gas emissions or contributions, as well as the rules that should be in place. apply to voluntary market mechanisms.

Dotse said the World Bank had announced $ 200 billion in financial commitments for its 2021-2025 climate investment program, which had doubled the $ 100 billion granted in its previous five-year plan. Investment ending in 2020.

He said that this year has already been hailed as a year of ambition, as the world has until 2020 for countries to come back to the table to revise their national climate action plans. , adding that the African Climate Week was the first of three annual regional meetings. announced climate events for 2019.

Mr. Dotse said that the common goal of these regional climate weeks was to support the implementation of the NDCs of the countries under the Paris Agreement and climate actions as part of the goals. sustainable development (SDG).
