Ghana, Malta grant visa waiver only for holders of diplomatic pbadports – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs quickly canceled some media coverage of the Ghana-Malta visa waiver agreement and explained that it only applies to diplomatic and service pbadports while on mission and not the general public.

The ministry issued a statement on Friday, April 5, 2019, and explained that the agreement would come into effect after the two countries were informed of the judicial procedures in force in their country.

The statement read; "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has learned that some media outlets are reporting that the Government of Ghana and Malta have signed a visa waiver agreement during the recent visit to the country. State President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Malta. "

"In order to avoid any ambiguity, the Ministry wishes to clarify that the agreement on the visa waiver signed during the state visit only applies to the holders of diplomatic pbadports and officially badigned service in both countries. The agreement will enter into force after both parties have been informed of the completion of the required national legal procedures, "the statement added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries included:

I. Agreement on the Prevention of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Income Taxes between the Governments of Ghana and Malta;

Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic Pbadports and Services between the Governments of Ghana and Malta;

ii. Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Air Agreements between the Governments of Ghana and Malta;

iv. Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism between the Governments of Ghana and Malta; and

V. Memorandum of Understanding on Medicines between the Governments of Ghana and Malta.
