Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, former Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said Ghana needed to implement effective health policies to improve people's lives.

He said Ghana has put in place viable health policies, but available statistics have shown that implementation has failed.

"Ghana has very good policies but unfortunately we are not able to implement them as we should. I think we are anticipating so much … and the type of statistics coming out tells us that we are not moving as fast as we should, "he said.

Professor Akosa said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at a public conference organized by Webster University, Ghana, on the theme: "Health Policy and Crisis of public health in Africa ".

He said Ghana's failure to properly implement its health policies posed serious threats to citizens and the future, issues that needed to be addressed in a comprehensive manner.

"The dangers are that Ghana, as a lower-middle-income country, has nearly 40% of its malnourished children, which has major implications for their cognitive abilities and their development as future leaders of the poor. this country, "he noted.

Professor Jean-Germain Gros, Visiting Professor (United States) of Webster Ghana, said that health policies in Africa have evolved over the years but have been challenged by rapid population growth.
