Ghana offers free technical assistance to Guyana on oil and gas

Ghana is committed to providing free technical badistance to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, following the significant discovery of oil and gas deposits off the coast of the country.

Since 2018, Guyana has made several high-impact oil and gas discoveries with the US oil giant ExxonMobil in February 2019, making it the 11th and 12th discoveries.

Speaking at a state luncheon held in his honor on Tuesday in Guyana, Nana Addo Dankwa President Akufo-Addo, said that Ghana was a player in the oil industry, having started oil production in commercial quantities since 2011.

He told Guyana President David Granger that he "should quickly explore the possibility of setting up a common vehicle to help with the effective initial management of oil and gas revenues."

President Akufo-Addo said, "Based on our experience, I think Ghana is well equipped to share with you the tasks not to be done in the region and to provide you with free and quality technical badistance. Let's hope that good management of new revenues will help finance the dramatic development of Guyana. "

The President said that since the beginning of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Guyana in 1979, the two countries had not done much to create the necessary legal framework for the conduct of their bilateral cooperation.

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed Ghana's readiness to deepen its bilateral cooperation with Guyana, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, energy, trade and tourism.

"I am also pleased that on this trip we signed an Air Services Agreement, Visa Waiver Agreement and Investment Memorandum of Understanding, all with the aim of strengthening our relations. bilateral agreements and to establish a legal framework for cooperation. then, he added.

According to President Akufo-Ado, Ghana and Guyana were united by blood, geography, history and common bonds, and that it was imperative that the two countries work together and that they progress in the unity and common purpose of developing and improving the standard of living of their respective citizens.

"To be guardians of one another means that we watch over each other and make sure that we, descendants of the maternal continent, never allow ourselves to be subjected to dehumanizing conditions and to be sold into slavery. The transatlantic slave trade, in whatever form, should never happen again, "he added.

President Akufo-Addo hoped that under his mandate and that of President Granger, Ghana and Guyana would continually look for ways to cooperate.

"I am confident that together we can create a strong new partnership for cooperation between our two nations for the mutual benefit of our two peoples," he added.
