Ghana: the airport company of Ghana sacked

The Director General of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah, was removed from office with immediate effect.

According to sources, the letter of dismissal dated January 16, 2019 was signed by the Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, and addressed to the chairman of the board of directors.

Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah has been badigned to hand over to his deputy, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, who is expected to act until the government appoints a new director general.

Some media have hinted that Mr. Dekyem Attafuah was sabotaging government initiatives within the Ghana Airport Company and that he would have been autocratic in his leadership style.

President Nana Akufo Addo appointed Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah as General Manager of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) in March 2017.

This appointment was confirmed in a statement dated March 20, 2017 from Ghana Airports Company Limited.

John Attafuah, a management consultant, replaced Charles Asare, who resigned as GACL's Executive Director on March 22, 2017.

Mr. Attafuah was until his appointment as CEO of Virtual Access Limited; a market research company.

He is a dedicated member of the NPP and has led the National Petroleum Authority led by President Kufuor between 2005 and 2009.

He has over 30 years of experience in the energy, services, information technology and pharmaceuticals sectors.

Mr. John Dekyem Attafuah holds a degree in Computer Science and Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Masters of Science in Systems Development, from Trinity College, Dublin, in Ireland.
