Ghana will participate in an international business and investment exhibition in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, from October this year to March 2022.
The six-month event dubbed “EXPO 2020 Dubai” will present business and investment opportunities in Ghana to the global business community, in order to attract foreign direct investment to the country.
The EXPO was originally scheduled for last year, but the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in its cancellation.
The event is expected to draw 122 countries worldwide and more than 30 million spectators to the commercial city of Dubai, starting next month.
The Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC), in collaboration with the Ministries of Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Information and many other sectoral agencies, facilitates and coordinates the participation of the Ghanaian delegation at the EXPO.
“Ghana: Unlimited Opportunities” is the nation’s chosen theme for the EXPO and would allow ministers of state and government officials as well as private sector actors to present and explain various business opportunities and investment available in Ghana to a global audience.
Speaking to the media in Accra on Monday on preparations for Ghana’s participation in the EXPO, Mr. Reginald Yofi Grant, Managing Director of GIPC, said Ghana had earmarked specific activities to be undertaken by the team Ghanaian at the EXPO.
Some key thematic areas that should be highlighted at the event include agriculture and agri-food processing, water and sanitation, culture and creative arts, food security, housing and construction, tourism and hospitality, land and natural resources, environment and climate change issues.
The EXPO, Grant said, will officially open on September 30 and hold a media engagement session with reporters and media professionals from around the world in October to explain the key thematic areas the nation would highlight during EXPO.
He said, for example, that Ghana chose to highlight opportunities in the country’s housing and construction industry in November and engage with strategic investors.
In December, the focus would be on Ghana’s education sector and textile and clothing industry, with a special exhibition on Kente.
The month of January 2022 would highlight Ghana’s technological and digital economy and explore avenues for partnerships and the health sector.
The last quarter of January next year would also shed more light on investment and trade opportunities in Ghana.
The highlight in February would be Ghana’s agricultural and agro-industrial opportunities.
On March 8 and 9, 2022, it was declared “Ghana Day” or “National Day Engagement”, which would allow each participating country to mount a special parade on the business and investment opportunities available in their respective countries to a global audience.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will lead a delegation from Ghana to the EXPO on March 8 and hold presidential roundtable discussions on “Government engagement in business and a networking session with private sector actors on investment opportunities in Ghana ”.
Sanitation and Water Resources Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah will be the first government official to take center stage at EXPO next month to showcase opportunities in this sector.
