As part of its efforts to eliminate illegal and non-hotel-grade facilities, the Ghana Tourism Board worked with the Ghana Police Criminal Investigation Department to close the Chinese restaurant and bar KTV 86 in Ghana. Accra.

The facility located in Labone was closed Monday, June 10, 2019 for illegal operation and in poor sanitary conditions.

Police said they had received information indicating that the facility would be used as a pbad house for Chinese nationals and that she is currently investigating the case.

In an interview with Citi Business News, General Affairs Manager at GTA, Jones Nelson explained the situation in more detail.

"The regional police command told us that Labone's Chinese KTV restaurant, which is a Chinese restaurant, operates a secret house of secrecy and that, under Ghana's laws, such an operation is illegal.

The police sent us an official letter stating that they had arrested people here and conducted investigations, but she thought it wise that since they are the regulators of tourism companies, we should be aware of them.

We quickly moved in here and closed them. And this is related to the national exercise that we started last week.

On June 3 of this year, the Ghana Tourism Authority launched a nationwide law enforcement exercise aimed at cracking down on tourist companies operating without the Authority's authorization.

The tourism authority said it has since completed its exercise in Accra and will continue this exercise in Tema.

However, after the start of the exercise, some tourism service operators criticized the GTA, claiming that their exercise was rather a setback for the industry.

Nevertheless, Nelson has called on operators to comply with all laws governing the tourism industry.

"People should not sit down for us to come close and then complain that we are wasting tourism and all that they should be willing to work with us."
