The Ghana Trade Hub portal, recently set up by the government, registered a high number of downloads in two months.

The application, available to Android and IOS users, has registered more than 10,000 downloads since its inception in April 2019.

Apart from that, the Ghana Trade Hub's new portal has also registered more than 500,000 visits since its inception in 2015.

This was revealed by Hector Obideaba, Revenue Assistant, Grade 1, Customs Technical Services Bureau, at headquarters, during a press conference in Accra on Thursday.

The APP was developed by West Blue Consulting, one of the providers providing one-stop port operations.

The introduction of the application facilitated the conduct of business in the ports and is part of the government's paperless ports program.

He added that transparency was the main objective emphasized in order to improve the working methods in Ghana's ports.

According to him, tracking imports in Ghana and knowing the estimated tolls have become an easy and stress-free task with the launch of the mobile software.

He noted that the duty calculator, which gives customers an estimated cost of goods for consignment goods and general goods, is a remarkable feature.

Mr. Obideaba explained that the estimates, although not representing the exact or full cost of shipping and general freight charges, due to some charges that are not captured by the system. agent fees, network fees, etc., the system is designed to give importers an estimated cost of duties ranging between 90 and 95%.

He added that importers will also have the opportunity to know the estimated cost of duty on imported vehicles with and without 30% reduction, as well as the 50% reference value for import duties, in a concern for transparency.

"It is very easy for importers to track the status, movements and location of their intended shipment; whether it is general goods or vehicles, and to have a precise knowledge of the amount of duties that would be levied on these imports before customs clearance, "he said.

According to him, trade and import players can now check this information in the comfort of their homes or anywhere in the world, without having to be physically present at the port.

Mr Kwasi Bobie-Ansah said that the essential purpose of the media engagement is to inform the public of relevant information on the pivotal portal and the mobile application as part of the reforms paperless and digital.
