The Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana will hold the first stage of the 2019 African Caucus meeting of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Accra between 31st July and 2North Dakota August 2019. The second meeting will take place at the venue of the IMF and WBG annual meetings.
"The organization of the African Caucus meeting in Ghana reinforces the government's efforts to position Ghana as a diplomatic and trade hub, especially after Ghana has chosen to serve as the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
"It also represents an opportunity for us to share our vision of Ghana, beyond aid, with the rest of the continent," said Ken Ofori-Atta, Chair of the African Caucus and Development Committee. World Bank.
The meeting will focus on three eminent panels, namely: Human Capacity Building and Skills Development to Accelerate Jobs and Economic Transformation; Strengthening institutional capacity and public financial management and promoting innovative financing for private sector led growth.
The African caucus is made up of finance ministers and central bank governors of the IMF and the World Bank Group.
It was established in 1963 as a forum to help organize and articulate common African interests within the two Bretton Woods Institutions (BWIs).
The last three host countries of the African Caucus were Egypt (2018), Botswana (2017) and Benin (2016).
The two-day meeting will officially open on August 1, with an address by President Akufo-Addo and is expected to attract about 350 delegates from Africa and the BWI.
The theme of this year's meeting is "Africa Beyond Aid – Building Institutional Capacity and Innovative Financing for Sustainable Growth". This theme sets the vision and ambition for Africa to transform and develop its economies faster and create jobs for all its citizens.
Speakers from Ghana include Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance, Chair of the African Caucus and Chair of the World Bank Development Committee, and Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade and Industry.
Mr. Ofori-Atta will speak in the panel on Promoting Innovative Financing for Private Sector-led Growth, and Mr. Kyerematen will give a presentation on the development of industrial parks and special economic zones.
Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President Emeritus of the African Development Bank; Emmanuel Nnadozie, Executive Secretary of the African Foundation for Capacity Building; Sergio Pimenta, IFC Regional Vice President for the Middle East and Africa; Aïchatou Boulama Kané, Minister of Planning, Niger; and Acha Leke, President of the McKinsey Africa Region.
