The year of return will welcome several Ghanaians back to their home country
The government of Ghana will grant citizenship to 200 African-Americans as part of the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Africans enslaved in plantations.
The government of Ghana has launched "Year of Return, Ghana 2019" with the aim of encouraging African Americans and the Black Diaspora to return to the country. Thus, in commemoration, the government of Ghana gives citizenship to 200 African-Americans.
According to Face2faceafrica.com, as part of the celebrations held throughout the year, President Nana Akufo-Addo will confer citizenship to 200 members of the Caribbean African-American diaspora group currently based in Ghana. The conference will be held in June, according to the director of diaspora affairs at the president's office and chair of the Steering Committee of the Year of Return, Akwesi Awua-Ababio.
Ghana is the only country in the 21st century that has legally offered to resettle people of African descent in Africa.
