Isaac Adongo is MP for Bolga Central
Ghana is currently worse off than when the West African oil country sought financial badistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), opposition legislator Isaac Adongo said.
The deputy of Central Bolgatanga said that the financial indiscipline of the Akufo-Addo administration had inflated the total wage bill from 14 billion to 22 billion.
He told parliament that if the government did not stop the indiscipline, the payroll of 22 billion GHS would be doubled by 2020.
His comments follow a speech to Parliament by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on Thursday, March 28, 2019.
Mr. Ofori-Atta said in the legislature that some discussions during the recent visit of Dr. Hafez Ghanem, Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, Ghana, show that the institution of Bretton Woods believes in the well-being of Ghana. Akufo-Addo Administration Assistance Program.
He said: "Our recent success in the Eurobond demonstrates the clear confidence of the international community in the hard work we have done. We know this trust is part of our vision of Ghana Beyond Aid.
"The Vice President of the World Bank for the African Region visited Ghana from March 24 to 26, 2019. The purpose of this visit was to discuss with the government and other stakeholders World Bank projects for Ghana and explore areas for future collaboration.
"Discussions focused on fundraising efforts for economic transformation for Ghana's achievements beyond aid and all of the SDGs."
However, commenting on the address, Mr. Adongo said, "We are worse than when we entered the IMF. In 2016, our total payroll amounted to 14 billion GHS. Today we are dealing with 22 billion GHS, a 53% expansion in the public sector. On average, we add 21% of our public payroll each year.
"If this continues by 2020, we would have doubled the payroll we have [NDC] left."
He added: "It's the pinnacle of indiscipline."
