The Ghanaian Armed Forces (GAF) have denied claims by North Tongu National Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s unbridled propensity to charter “luxury” jets for his travels abroad, raises concerns among the Air Force.
GAF, in a statement released today and signed by Commander Andy La-Anyane, Acting Director of Public Relations, said: “unequivocally that this allegation is false and without foundation ”.
“For the avoidance of doubt, staff morale, not only in the Ghanaian Air Force, as it is claimed, but throughout the Ghanaian armed forces, has never been at a very high level.”.
Akufo-Addo is committed to King of Arabia style cruises
The NDC MP recently focused his goals on the president’s overseas travel and believes the president is wasting taxpayer money on his Arabian-King-style cruise instead of using the existing presidential jet.
According to him, when President Akufo-Addo traveled to the UK and Germany respectively for the Global Education Summit and the G20 Compact with Africa summits, he was using an ultra-luxury aircraft, the LX-DIO Boeing operated by Global Jet Luxembourg.
He said that same plane was used by the president at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in the United States.
Concern within the Air Force?
Hon. Ablakwa further alleged that this executive decision to set aside the “famous Air Force professionals with unquestionable loyalty“for the luxury jet services operated by foreigners has caused consternation among the air force.
“Ghanaians deserve and demand that you know why you prefer luxury extraterrestrial aircrafts operated by foreign crews while our famous Air Force professionals of unquestionable loyalty, trained at great cost to the taxpayer, guarantee a better security for our presidents – an action that creates considerable concern in the ranks of the Ghanaian Air Force“he said in a recent open letter to the president.
He also claimed that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s three recent overseas trips cost the taxpayer GH ¢ 10 million.
Treat him with contempt
But the GAF, in a strong statement, dispelled any allegations of unrest within its ranks, and further cautioned against the tendency to drag the military into partisan politics on the part of some Ghanaians, including politicians.
