Ghana striker Collin Quaner will work under Jan Siewert alongside the English Premier League Huddersfield Town.
Siewert replaces David Wagner, who left the club by mutual consent last week, Town being rooted at the bottom of the table.
"Huddersfield Town is delighted to announce the appointment of Jan Siewert as the new head coach," said President Dean Hoyle on the club's website.
"I would like to begin by officially welcoming Jan to Huddersfield Town. I am extremely happy to work with him as a new head coach.
"Let me start by addressing the obvious. Our former head coach, David Wagner, was a huge success. We later named a new head coach who has many similarities with him. an ambitious young German from Borussia Dortmund II.
"However, it does a disservice to Jan, who is his own man. There is much more to this appointment than that. "
Wagner led Huddersfield to the top in 2016-17 for the first time in 45 years after winning the playoff final against Reading. With the odds against him, he then kept them in the top rankings last season.
Siewert has previously trained young German internationals and held management positions at VfL Bochum and Rot-Weiss Essen, in addition to his role as head of the Dortmund reserves.
Quaner has a season to forget after spending a good part of the treatment table campaign.
He made only one appearance in any season after returning from injury last month.
